KeyRoles and Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in multiple facility systems (Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire Life Safety, and Building Monitoring and Control).
- Mechanical areas:
- Data centre cooling solutions, including chilled water systems and components, various HVAC systems (roof‑top units, split units, DX, CRAC/CRAH units, humidification systems) and Kyoto cooling if equipped.
- Electrical areas:
- Electrical/critical power distribution from the utility/generator main entrance switch gear through UPS systems and distribution to customer load, including load‑bank operations.
- Plumbing areas:
- All water supply piping, fixtures, meters, back‑flow prev enters, water heaters, boilers and plumbing fixtures (drinking fountains, sinks, sink drains, traps, trap primers, urinals, commodes) and internal and roof drain systems.
- Control system areas:
- Electrical and mechanical controls system operations with expected user knowledge.
- Fire Life Safety areas:
- Wet sprinkler systems and pre‑action sprinkler systems and associated fire detection devices and control systems.
- Work with contractors and consultants for all system expansions, corrections and upgrades.
- Collaborate with relevant teams to determine building maintenance requirements for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, control and fire life safety systems.
- Assist teams to track, document, and complete an aggressive preventive and predictive maintenance schedule.
- Ensure data centre operates at maximum operational efficiency by analysing existing operating conditions, recommending new approaches and technologies, and improving overall efficiency and cost reduction.
- Assist with data centre systems management to avoid unplanned, customer‑impacting events.
- Manage data floor and back‑of‑house/hotel load mechanical and electrical capacity to ensure best use of available power and efficient cooling.
- Perform data trending, tracking and analysis.
- Provide feedback to relevant teams on effectiveness of existing standards and processes.
- Develop technical documentation for preventative or corrective maintenance activities.
- Install hot and cold aisle isolation barriers.
- Maintain client cages on the data floor.
- Order, track and restock facility consumables and parts for lowest possible cost.
- Ensure regular, predictable attendance essential for satisfactory performance.
- Demonstrated technical ability applicable to data centre operations and innovative cross‑functional thinking (integrated systems and IT experience).
- Entry‑level knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems used in a data centre: electrical distribution, transformers, PLCs, generators, switch gear, UPS systems, STS, ATS, PDUs, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, pre‑action sprinkler systems.
- Entry‑level knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25 and compliance issues related to fire life safety building codes.
- Entry‑level knowledge of industrial safety best practices (lock‑out/tag‑out, arc‑flash protection, OSHA and state regulations).
- Rapid learning and use of PC‑based integrated critical monitoring and control systems.
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Team‑environment collaboration.
- Ability to work in a high‑stress, fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities.
- Response to emergency situations at the data centre.
- Flexibility to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays and on‑call.
- Effective communication (verbal, visual, listening) and good problem‑solving skills.
- Relevant high school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Relevant advanced qualification or equivalent work‑related experience (required).
- CPR/First Aid and NFPA
70E certified (can be gained during employment). - OSHA‑approved forklift certification or ability to obtain one after hire (required).
- Entry‑level or basic demonstrated experience in a similar role, preferably gained within a data centre facilities environment.
Pay Range: $35,000 – $51,000.
