About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Design Engineer to join our Technical Assistance team in Newport News, Virginia. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic industrial environment supporting heavy machinery, automation systems, and engineering projects.

As a Design Engineer, you will collaborate closely with on-site supervisors, technicians, clients, and engineering teams to provide technical support, optimize existing fixture designs, and contribute to the development of innovative engineering solutions. This position is ideal for early-career engineers looking to gain hands‑on experience in design, manufacturing support, and industrial operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering support and technical assistance to the on‑site team.
  • Support mechanical supervisors and technicians with design‑related questions and troubleshooting activities.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain engineering and technical documentation.
  • Perform design improvements and optimization of existing fixtures deployed at client facilities.
  • Assist clients with engineering requests related to current and future fixture designs.
  • Gather operational feedback and provide regular reports regarding fixture performance and improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the on‑site team to conduct preliminary engineering studies and feasibility assessments for customer requests.
  • Support the development of project scopes, technical proposals, and budget estimates.
  • Ensure engineering solutions meet quality, safety, and operational requirements.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 0–2 years of engineering experience (entry‑level candidates are encouraged to apply).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create technical drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling software; CATIA experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic systems and mechanical equipment.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to adapt quickly in a fast‑paced industrial environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a background screening.
Preferred
  • Experience in industrial machinery, automation, manufacturing, or heavy equipment environments.
  • Familiarity with fixture design and mechanical system optimization.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and engineering best practices.
