About the RoleWe are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Design Engineer to join our Technical Assistance team in Newport News, Virginia. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic industrial environment supporting heavy machinery, automation systems, and engineering projects.
As a Design Engineer, you will collaborate closely with on-site supervisors, technicians, clients, and engineering teams to provide technical support, optimize existing fixture designs, and contribute to the development of innovative engineering solutions. This position is ideal for early-career engineers looking to gain hands‑on experience in design, manufacturing support, and industrial operations.
Key Responsibilities- Provide engineering support and technical assistance to the on‑site team.
- Support mechanical supervisors and technicians with design‑related questions and troubleshooting activities.
- Prepare, review, and maintain engineering and technical documentation.
- Perform design improvements and optimization of existing fixtures deployed at client facilities.
- Assist clients with engineering requests related to current and future fixture designs.
- Gather operational feedback and provide regular reports regarding fixture performance and improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with the on‑site team to conduct preliminary engineering studies and feasibility assessments for customer requests.
- Support the development of project scopes, technical proposals, and budget estimates.
- Ensure engineering solutions meet quality, safety, and operational requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- 0–2 years of engineering experience (entry‑level candidates are encouraged to apply).
- Ability to read, interpret, and create technical drawings and engineering documentation.
- Experience with 3D CAD modeling software; CATIA experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic systems and mechanical equipment.
- Excellent problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to adapt quickly in a fast‑paced industrial environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a background screening.
- Experience in industrial machinery, automation, manufacturing, or heavy equipment environments.
- Familiarity with fixture design and mechanical system optimization.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and engineering best practices.
