What You'll Do- Support multimodal transportation planning, safety, and operational studies, including corridor, intersection, bicycle, pedestrian, speed management, parking management, shared mobility, and traffic operations initiatives.
- Assist with short- and long-range transportation planning efforts and support special transportation projects.
- Review land development applications, engineering plans, and site designs to evaluate transportation impacts and ensure compliance with applicable standards.
- Perform transportation analyses, evaluations, and engineering studies to support data-driven recommendations for improving roadway safety and operations.
- Prepare technical reports, maps, exhibits, presentations, and other materials to communicate transportation data, findings, and recommendations.
- Coordinate with state and local transportation agencies, developers, consultants, and other stakeholders; assist with public outreach and community engagement activities.
- Interpret engineering drawings, site plans, and technical reports to support engineering recommendations consistent with federal, state, and local laws, policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Utilize traffic analysis, traffic simulation, GIS, and other transportation planning tools to support project development while exercising sound engineering judgment and providing excellent customer service.
- Contribute to the successful delivery of a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients as a member of the team.
- Complete assigned work within the specified schedule and hours.
- Prepare and/or modify portions of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
- Develop project quantities and assist with cost estimates.
- Assist engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.
- Self-sufficiently complete tasks including research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree in Engineering and 1 year of relevant experience.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage complex projects effectively and simultaneously.
- Proficiency in traffic simulation software (Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, SIDRA, etc.), ArcGIS, Microsoft Office Suite, Micro Station and/or AutoCAD or other job-required software.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and review complex traffic studies.
- Experience in traffic engineering, land use development application, and site plan reviews.
- Strong communication, presentation, and public speaking skills.
- Proficiency in applying engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles in work.
- Master's degree in Engineering
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
- Knowledgeable in Micro Station and/or AutoCAD

Pay ranges:
The approximate pay range for Virginia is $85,580.52 - $ (varies by location and other factors). The approximate nationwide pay range is $74,417.85 - $. Compensation depends on qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location.
