This opportunity entails: conducting and supporting a wide range of multimodal transportation planning, safety, and operational initiatives; reviewing land development applications, engineering plans, and site designs to assess transportation impacts; performing transportation analyses, evaluations, and engineering studies; preparing and presenting technical reports, maps, exhibits, and other materials; coordinating with state and local transportation agencies, developers, and other stakeholders; interpreting drawings and reports to develop practical engineering recommendations;

utilizing traffic analysis and planning tools to support project development; providing excellent customer service and sound engineering judgment to solve transportation planning and engineering challenges. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful delivery of a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.

What You’ll Do
  • Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
  • Assist in the development of project specifications.
  • Develop discipline-specific engineering project elements and deliverables such as reports, designs, and plans.
  • Aids in the coordination and productivity of project team members.
  • Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineering project team members.
  • Works closely with other disciplines and on multi-discipline projects.
  • Performs quality control reviews of discipline-specific engineering project elements and deliverables.
  • Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work within discipline.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree in Engineering and 3 years of relevant experience, or PhD in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience.
What You’ll Bring
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to carry out complex projects effectively and simultaneously.
  • Experience with Traffic Simulation Software (e.g., Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, SIDRA), ArcGIS, Microsoft Office Suite, Micro Station and/or AutoCAD or similar software.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and review complex traffic studies.
  • Experience in traffic engineering, land use development application and site plan reviews.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and public speaking skills, with experience in public involvement and presenting technical information to public agencies and stakeholders.
  • Focus on continuous improvement and optimizing work processes.
  • Ability to progress independently on the majority of designs and tasks required of the discipline.
  • Understanding of engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles; effective time management and proactive project development communication.
What We Prefer
  • Master’s degree in Engineering
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification (depending on discipline)

Locations:
Arlington, VA (Alexandria). The approximate pay ranges are provided as estimates and may vary by location and candidate qualifications. The Virginia range is $95,879.51 - $. The nationwide range is $83,373.48 - $. Actual compensation depends on factors including qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location.
