Raytheon’s Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) organization is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support hands‑on development and integration of innovative electro‑optical (EO) technologies within complex automated systems. The program engineering team designs and integrates advanced optical sensors into unique systems that perform research, development, and field operations for our customer. In this role, the Senior Systems Engineer will execute the full systems engineering lifecycle, including system design, build, integration and test, training, deployment, and sustainment of program‑developed systems.

Responsibilities also include developing system test requirements; planning, executing, and analyzing system integration and verification activities; conducting hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing; and providing technical support for deployed sensor systems. This position may require CONUS/OCONUS travel to support fielded systems, demonstrations, and test events. The role is onsite at Raytheon’s Dulles, Virginia location.

What You Will Do
  • Work in a team environment and directly interface with customers and management across multiple disciplines.
  • Conduct system performance analysis and develop technical performance risk mitigation strategies.
  • Create and decompose requirements, define system interfaces, and help determine how requirements will be validated and verified by the test team.

  • Identify and resolve issues during testing, support system design enhancements, and provide troubleshooting and calibration for ongoing and specialized programs.
  • Communicate with program management, functional vendors, and customers.
  • Perform integration, verification, and validation testing/reporting to ensure the system under test performs according to specifications/requirements.
  • Document test results by creating and presenting comprehensive test reports to various stakeholders.
  • Analyze and define how the system works, creating use cases.
  • Provide engineering support for the execution of a portion of the program’s test program, including test processes and baseline definition and test architecture design.
  • Support and attend technical reviews and technical interchanges in support of the program.
  • Perform system performance evaluations and in-depth analysis to identify opportunities for new functionality and system enhancements.
  • Travel, both domestic and international, to support customer events, with an expected travel requirement not exceeding 25%.
Qualifications
  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant engineering experience in electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Experience with systems engineering, lifecycle, roles and functions, with specific experience in one or more of the following areas:
Concept of Operations (Con Ops) development, requirements definition and management, functional analysis or interface definition and control.
  • Experience with system software, system hardware, system requirements, and/or test.
