Process Control Engineer I
Augusta, GA (100% on-site)
Salary: $100-120k
We are seeking a Process Control Engineer I to support automation projects, process improvements, and commissioning activities within a manufacturing environment. This role will assist with the design, configuration, troubleshooting, and optimization of control systems while partnering with engineering and production teams to improve efficiency, reliability, and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with Production and Engineering teams to develop and implement new or improved process designs related to control software and hardware, including automation improvements, enhanced process control, efficiency gains, and data reporting capabilities.
- Provide technical support for control system configuration, process control parameter adjustments, and troubleshooting to minimize downtime and improve plant operations.
- Assist with evaluating and implementing control scheme improvements to optimize manufacturing processes.
- Develop, maintain, and support training materials and procedures for operators using automated control systems, including process simulations and best practices.
- Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with site GMP guidelines and quality standards.
- Develop working knowledge of multiple control platforms, including PLC and DCS systems, and provide backup support to process control teams.
- Support capital projects through scope development, cost justification, control logic development, system configuration, and commissioning activities.
- Participate in site safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives, including incident investigations, corrective action reviews, and follow-up activities.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
- Experience or knowledge of industrial automation control platforms, including PLC, HMI, or DCS systems.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction while following safe work practices.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with facility employees, contractors, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies and expand technical knowledge.
- Strong computer skills and attention to detail.
- Understanding of safety, health, environmental, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with process instrumentation, control systems engineering, and structured programming concepts.
- Basic programming experience.
- Experience with Allen Bradley platforms, including Factory Talk View / HMI systems and RSLogix 5000.
- Knowledge of PLC communication protocols and integration between different control platforms.
- Electrical and/or mechanical troubleshooting aptitude.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, process, or regulated environments preferred.
- Ability to support equipment inspections, troubleshooting activities, and field-based work.
- Must be able to climb stairs and ladders and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Schedule flexibility may be required during shutdowns, commissioning activities, and other operational needs.
