Job Summary
Event Technician & Stagehand (Media Specialist II) at Northern Virginia Community College’s Event Services department provides first‑line technical support for events at the Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center and the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall & Arts Center.

- Provide technical support for rental groups in both event venues.
- Operate light and sound boards and coordinate with audio and lighting designers.
- Set up and operate motorized and counterweight theatrical fly systems.
- Assist with microphone setup and lighting focus for clients.
- Ensure building security, maintain a safe and professional working environment, and coordinate with custodial staff for cleanliness.
- Coordinate event load‑in, set‑up, and breakdown under the direction of the Operations Manager.
- Perform any other duties as assigned and assist in emergencies as directed by the Governor.
- Must be able to operate a computer lighting control board, sound system, video projectors, and cameras.
- Must be able to operate a theatrical fly system and lift equipment up to 50 lb.
- Must be able to climb catwalks and hang/focus theatrical lighting equipment.
- Must be able to set up dance floors and portable sound systems.
- Must be able to work a varied schedule, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
- Clear communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience as a professional stagehand or technician in a performing arts venue.
- Experience in customer service and event‑center environments.
- Experience with professional audio systems, digital and analog mixing consoles, wireless microphones, and signal routing.
- Experience with theatrical lighting systems, digital consoles, hanging and focusing stage lights, and circuiting/cabling.
- Experience operating motorized and/or counterweight theatrical fly systems of at least 1,000 lb per arbor.
- Stage management, lighting design, stage rigging, stage carpentry, and audio engineering experience.
- Must be a resident of Virginia, Maryland, or the District of Columbia.
- Must be available for occasional travel to Alexandria campus.
- This position is not eligible for telework.
