The Title Underwriter is responsible for reviewing residential and commercial title work, assessing risk, and preparing accurate title commitments and policies. This role requires sound judgment, deep underwriting expertise, and the ability to resolve complex title issues efficiently while maintaining high quality standards and productivity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review residential and commercial title abstracts to evaluate risk and determine insurability
  • Prepare title commitments and final policies in accordance with underwriting guidelines
  • Identify defects, liens, encumbrances, and other title issues requiring resolution
  • Determine underwriting requirements and documentation needed for settlement
  • Research online land records to locate missing or corrective documents (e.g., deeds, trusts, satisfactions, judgments)
  • Collaborate with processors, escrow officers, lenders, and legal counsel to clear title issues
  • Consult with underwriting counsel on complex matters as needed
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry regulations
  • Maintain high levels of accuracy, efficiency, and professionalism
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum 10 years of title underwriting experience (required)
  • Strong knowledge of title abstract review and risk assessment
  • Solid understanding of federal and state regulations governing real estate settlement and title insurance
  • Experience with commercial underwriting strongly preferred
  • Qualia software proficiency strongly preferred
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Regular use of computer, phone, printer, copier, and office software
  • Occasional standing, walking, lifting up to 10 pounds
