Fahrenheit Advisors has been retained to assist our client, Service Center Metals (SCM) in their search for a Director of Accounting & Finance to join their team in Prince George, VA.

Service Center Metals (SCM) is seeking an experienced and hands‑on Director of Accounting & Finance to serve as the senior financial leader for its rapidly growing, multi‑plant aluminum manufacturing operation. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the Director will play a critical role in safeguarding the financial integrity of the organization while partnering closely with executive leadership to support operational excellence, disciplined growth, and long‑term value creation.

As the highest‑ranking finance executive, the Director will have full ownership of the company’s accounting and finance functions, ensuring accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting across the enterprise. This leader will be responsible for maintaining a strong control environment, overseeing audits and compliance, optimizing cash flow and working capital, and strengthening financial systems and processes to support continued scale.

The ideal candidate is a proven finance leader with deep manufacturing experience who can balance strategic perspective with hands‑on execution. This role requires close collaboration with plant leadership and cross‑functional partners to drive cost discipline, improve margins, and support data‑driven decision‑making across the organization. The Director will also build and develop a high‑performing finance team, establish scalable structures, and represent SCM to external stakeholders, including auditors, banks, and advisors.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the senior‑most financial executive, responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and transparency of all financial reporting across a multi‑plant manufacturing organization
  • Provide strategic financial leadership to the President & CEO, serving as a trusted advisor on performance, risk, capital allocation, and long‑term value creation
  • Own enterprise‑wide accounting and finance functions, including:
    • General ledger
    • AP/AR
    • Fixed assets
    • Inventory and cost accounting
    • Taxes
    • Treasury and cash management
  • Lead all external financial audits, internal controls assessments, and compliance activities, ensuring a strong control environment and audit‑ready organization
  • Ensure balance sheet integrity, including oversight of reconciliations, reserves, and judgmental accounting areas
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve financial policies, controls, and governance frameworks
  • Partner cross‑functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, and Plant Leadership to:
    • Drive cost discipline and margin improvement
    • Improve working capital and cash flow
  • Oversee and develop the finance and accounting organization, including:
    • Building scalable team structures
    • Developing future finance leaders
    • Setting performance expectations and accountability
  • Lead financial systems strategy, including ERP optimization and reporting enhancements
  • Support growth initiatives, including capital investments, acquisitions, or transaction readiness as applicable
  • Represent the finance function with external stakeholders, including auditors, banks, advisors, and board members
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred (MBA a plus)
  • 12–15+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, with significant leadership experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Prior experience as a CFO, VP Finance, Director, or senior finance leader in a complex, multi‑site organization
  • Proven ownership of:
    • Enterprise‑wide accounting and financial reporting
    • External audits (financial, controls, and compliance)
    • Balance sheet integrity, internal controls, and risk management
    • Treasury, cash management, and working capital optimization
  • Demonstrated ability to build, scale, and lead high‑performing finance teams
  • Experience partnering directly with the CEO, Board, lenders, and external advisors
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing economics, including inventory, standard costing, variances, and cost controls
  • Track record of driving process improvement, system optimization, and operational discipline
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and ability to operate with confidentiality at the executive level
