Position: ACCOUNTING MANAGER

Southside Behavioral Health provides individualized, culturally competent behavioral health services to the communities of Halifax, Mecklenburg, and Brunswick Counties in Virginia, supporting wellness and quality of life in a recovery-oriented environment.

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing accounting, accounts payable, and procurement operations while supporting the organization’s financial accuracy and compliance. This role supervises the Accounts Payable Specialist, Accountant, and Procurement Specialist and works closely with the Financial Services Director and other finance staff.

This role combines management responsibilities with hands-on work and may perform accounting, accounts payable, and procurement functions as needed to support financial operations.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the full month-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, general ledger review, and related revenue and cash transaction activities.
  • Review and approve reconciliations and journal entries prepared by accounting staff.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of general ledger activity and financial records.
  • Support internal audits, financial monitoring, and internal control reviews.
  • Prepare reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation for external audits.
  • Supervise accounts payable, accounting, and procurement staff to ensure continuity and accuracy of financial operations and support these functions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable state and federal procurement regulations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including general ledger, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and applicable financial regulations, including GAAP.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal procurement regulations.
  • Experience preparing for or participating in financial audits.
  • Supervisory experience or demonstrated experience providing work direction or training.
  • Must meet all criminal background and drug screening requirements.
  • Valid Driver’s license and safe driving record required.
