Student Account Specialist
Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) serves students in the Appalachian region. The Student Account Specialist is a key member of the Business Office, responsible for managing student funds, financial aid processing, third-party billing, and reporting student financial transactions while providing excellent customer service to students, staff, and other parties.

Position Description- Deliver exceptional customer service and maintain accurate student account records.
- Manage student account transactions, including processing tuition, fees, payments, and financial aid disbursements.
- Process revenue and receivable transactions in accordance with Commonwealth of Virginia and VHCC policies.
- Coordinate with Financial Aid staff each semester to process aid payments and maintain student invoices.
- Collect, process, and balance State and Federal funds and ensure accurate posting to appropriate accounts.
- Handle all financial aid processing, sponsor invoicing, and application of payments including Chapters 31 & 33.
- Reconcile financial aid, third-party billing, and general accounting transactions; investigate variances and resolve discrepancies.
- Collaborate with Nelnet on student loan servicing, payment plans, and posting of payments.
- Answer direct phone calls and communicate with internal and external customers regarding financial processes.
- Assist students with inquiries related to tuition, billing, and payments.
- Provide backup coverage for the business office cashier and support daily operations.
- Demonstrated ability to research, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate financial and operational data.
- Experience in reconciling financial transactions and ensuring data integrity across student information systems.
- Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Proficiency in cash handling, basic math, and data processing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills to manage competing priorities.
- Preferred:
Associate’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
