Position Summary
The Strategic Initiatives Accountant is responsible for providing financial expertise and support to the grants, programs, and activities that advance the college by applying knowledge of accounting principles, audit standards, budgeting practices, public administration, project management, and legal/regulatory compliance. The role collects data, reconciles accounting transactions, and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to produce related financial reporting for Germanna Community College decision makers.
MajorDuties and Responsibilities
- Serves as a strategic business partner with grant/project managers to successfully apply for, manage, and closeout grants/projects.
- Coordinates with grant/project managers, the Foundation, and other stakeholders as needed to manage projects effectively.
- Designs, documents, and manages processes that achieve efficiencies and lead to timely and relevant information for college decision-makers and stakeholders.
- Accurately processes, records, and reconciles transactions involving federal, state, local, and grant funds, and other projects.
- Prepares financial reports, analysis, and schedules to report on the financial status of various programs.
- Assists the Director of Finance in budget development for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Ensures operations comply with Virginia Community College System (VCCS) policies, procedures, and regulations, as well as applicable Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned and to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's /Required Qualifications
- Experience in analyzing, reconciling, and reporting complex accounting information
- Experience managing budgets, timelines, and schedules
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively both written and verbally with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and/or governmental accounting principles
- Project management experience
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Experience in higher education, state government, or public sector finance
- Experience managing federal grant awards
- CPA, CGFM, CPFO, or PMP certification
- Experience with Commonwealth systems (Cardinal, AIS, SIS)
Travel between campuses may be required.
