Senior Underwriter‑LIHTC Proprietary Investments at Fannie Mae plays a key role in the U.S. housing finance ecosystem, supporting affordable multifamily development nationwide.

Responsibilities
  • Work with syndicator partners to structure, underwrite, and close potential affordable multifamily proprietary investments utilizing low‑income housing tax credits.
  • Maintain overall responsibility for the investment review and approval process of proprietary investments, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify and assess the risk profile of equity investments to ensure risk is mitigated and objectives are met within appropriate credit, investment and regulatory guidelines.
  • Coordinate with internal and external teams to develop key milestones for seamless execution.
  • Recommend business solutions based on analysis of internal and market data.
  • Actively participate on special project teams as needed.
  • Travel to visit prospective investments and markets, including overnight travel up to 25% of the time.
Required Experience
  • 6 years of LIHTC equity experience with a track record of underwriting and closing proprietary investments while maintaining product and credit quality.
  • Demonstrated experience modeling and structuring LIHTC proprietary investments and managing critical projects with tight timelines.
  • Highly motivated self‑starter with strong attention to detail.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills who thrives in a collaborative, dynamic, and evolving environment.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to influence through negotiation, persuasion, facilitation, and conflict resolution.
  • Proficiency in tax and accounting matters related to LIHTC.
  • Ability to manage and engage stakeholders, customers, and vendors while building relationship networks.
  • Experience gathering accurate information to explain concepts and answer critical questions.
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 25% of the time.
Desired Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Proven ability to lead projects and solve complex problems.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with people of diverse functional expertise towards common goals.
Salary and Benefits

Target Pay Range: $121,000 - $158,000 per year. The position is eligible to participate in a Fannie Mae incentive program and offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, life, voluntary lifestyle, and other benefits.
