About Us
At the Nova Scotia Department of Finance and Treasury Board, we provide financial leadership, analysis, and policy support that helps strengthen Nova Scotia. As stewards of the province’s financial affairs, we deliver a broad range of corporate fiscal and management services.
Our eight Financial Advisory Services (FAS) units work directly with departments, Crown corporations, and other public service entities, providing support in budgeting, forecasting, and program‑related financial advice. We are continuously seeking new and innovative ways to improve how we plan, manage, budget, and invest.
About Our OpportunityAs the Senior Financial Advisor, you will provide sound, timely financial advice to assigned program areas and to external agencies funded by the client department. You will serve as the primary day‑to‑day contact on financial matters that support program delivery and promote accountability between Financial Advisory Services, the client department, and externally funded agencies.
Primary AccountabilitiesThis may be the right opportunity for you if you have a bachelor’s degree and six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You also possess knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) and other relevant CPA Canada standards and requirements. You have an extensive financial background and experience working with the complex economic interrelationships between the Province and provincially regulated and/or funded agencies.
You have the ability to critically analyze and cost programs, forecast operations, examine financial statements, and advise clients on financial, accounting, and reporting matters within the context of GAAP, legislation, and policy. Experience in program evaluation and in the development of systems, procedures, and policies related to financial accountability is required. You also possess strong communication skills and the ability to build and maintain successful relationships with senior management and both internal and external stakeholders.
and Experience
While not required, the following would be considered assets: A Canadian CPA accounting designation or enrolment in a recognized CPA accounting program; knowledge and experience using SAP/S4
HANA or a similar ERP system; knowledge and experience in the delivery of a broad spectrum of financial services to a varied client group; knowledge and experience in the performance of auditing procedures.

Pay Grade: PR 17
Salary Range: $3,410.48- $4,005.58 Bi-Weekly
