Job Description

Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The College serves as a regional leader, providing quality learning experiences that enable students to participate effectively in the social, economic, political, intellectual, and cultural life of their communities. Located in Fredericksburg, VA, the College benefits from a rich and diverse community enriched with arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, and many other activities.

Position

Summary

The Strategic Initiatives Accountant is responsible for providing financial expertise and support to grants, programs, and activities that advance the college. The role applies knowledge of accounting principles, auditing standards, budgeting practices, public administration, project management, and legal/regulatory compliance to collect data, reconcile accounting transactions, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to produce financial reporting for Germanna Community College decision-makers.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serves as a strategic business partner with grant/project managers to successfully apply for, manage, and closeout grants/projects.
  • Coordinates with grant/project managers, the Foundation, and other stakeholders as needed to manage projects effectively.
  • Designs, documents, and manages processes that achieve efficiencies and deliver timely and relevant information to college decision-makers and stakeholders.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely processing, recording, and reconciliation of transactions involving federal, state, local, and grant funds, and other projects.
  • Prepares financial reports, analyses, and schedules to report on the financial status of various programs.
  • Assists the Director of Finance in budget development for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Ensures operations are conducted in compliance with Virginia Community College System (VCCS) policies, procedures, and regulations, as well as applicable Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements.
Qualifications
  • Experience in analyzing, reconciling, and reporting complex accounting information.
  • Experience managing budgets, timelines, and schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively both written and verbally with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and/or governmental accounting principles.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Additional Considerations
  • Experience in higher education, state government, or public sector finance.
  • Experience managing federal grant awards.
  • CPA, CGFM, CPFO, or PMP certification.
  • Experience with Commonwealth systems (Cardinal, AIS, SIS).
Required Travel

Travel between campuses may be required.
