Our healthcare provider client, located in Fairfax County is seeking a Controller who will oversee all financial operations within the organization, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in the healthcare and primary care financial processes. This role is responsible for managing the organization’s financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and accounting functions while ensuring alignment with healthcare regulations and standards. The Controller will play a key role in supporting strategic decision-making by providing financial insights and fostering a culture of fiscal responsibility across the organization.

Location: This position is onsite in Fairfax, VA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and healthcare industry standards.
  • Manage cash flow, monitor budgets, and forecast financial performance to support organizational growth and sustainability.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local healthcare financial regulations, including Medicare/Medicaid reimbursements, HIPAA, and other industry standards.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to ensure timely and accurate audits.
  • Implement internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent financial fraud or errors.
  • Partner with the executive team to develop and execute financial strategies that support the organization’s mission and objectives.
  • Provide financial insights to support decisions related to expansion, mergers, acquisitions, or partnerships within the primary care space.
  • Conduct cost analyses to identify opportunities for efficiency in healthcare operations and patient care delivery.
  • Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering professional development and promoting a collaborative work environment.
  • Establish performance metrics and ensure the finance team meets deadlines and delivers high-quality results.
  • Drive process improvements and system enhancements to increase financial accuracy and operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
  • CPA (preferred).
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in financial management or accounting, with at least 4 years in a leadership role.
  • Prior experience in healthcare, primary care, or related industries is required
  • Large physician practice or Ambulatory service center (ASC) experience preferred.
  • Experience with Net Suite is required.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and healthcare reimbursement models (e.g., value-based care, capitated payments).
  • Proficiency with financial management systems and accounting software; experience with systems like Quick Books, Net Suite, or Epic is a plus.
  • Management Service Organization (MSO) experience
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced healthcare environment
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Work closely with external auditors and tax advisors.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with healthcare cost accounting and payer contracts.
  • Knowledge of healthcare-specific compliance frameworks, such as Stark Law and Anti-Kickback Statutes.
  • Experience managing financial aspects of healthcare M&A or scaling operations.
