Job Duties

This position analyzes, researches, and investigates alleged regulatory and unlicensed violations under the jurisdiction of the Department of Professional & Occupational Regulation (the Department). The successful candidate will possess the ability to accurately analyze complaints associated with applicable standards of conduct, statutes, and licensure requirements; recommend appropriate outcomes based upon the collection of information and its comparison with applicable regulations and statutes;

prepare factual, accurate, grammatically correct, and detailed written reports; successfully manage multiple assignments and adapt to changing priorities; and present findings in Department Informal Fact-Finding conferences, courts, and to other staff members—all of the above being accomplished in a timely fashion.

This position is located at the Department’s main office in Henrico County, Virginia; however, occasional overnight statewide travel may be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience completing investigations as demonstrated by prior investigative or professional experience in conducting thorough interviews and research and applying analytical skills
  • Experience effectively collecting, comprehending, and verifying information through interviews and other sources with a preference for the Department’s investigative practices or previous state or local government administrative investigations practices
  • Experience accurately interpreting complex regulations and statutes
  • Experience comparing, and appropriately applying, information collected to complex regulations and statutes and recommending appropriate outcomes based upon internal procedures
  • Experience accurately documenting findings in accordance with policy and procedure
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and proofreading skills
  • Experience effectively utilizing Microsoft Office and Adobe products with preference for intradepartmental software programs and databases
  • Experience performing and completing assignments accurately and independently with limited supervision
  • Excellent organizational skills to include experience successfully managing a regular caseload with multiple ongoing activities and tasks
  • Commitment to customer service with the ability to effectively and appropriately interact with the general public, Department staff, and members of other departments and agencies
Additional Considerations
  • Equivalent work experience with Public Administration, Public Policy, Criminal Justice, or similarly related field preferred.
  • Experience investigating, analyzing, and documenting findings regarding regulatory matters and/or working in a detailed investigations environment with progressive responsibility is desirable.
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a national fingerprint-based background check.
