Senior Manager, Policy and Business Affairs

Position Overview

Dolby’s Policy and Business Affairs team is seeking a Senior Manager based in Washington, D.C. to support our global team. This individual will play an important role in our advocacy strategy, working closely with team members to support Dolby’s policy efforts before federal government stakeholders on issues involving intellectual property, technology licensing, and standardization.

This role also supports Dolby’s broader business interests by collaborating with advisors and trade associations to monitor developments in geopolitics, trade, and related policy areas. While the position emphasizes intellectual property, it requires versatility and the ability to engage across a wide variety of policy topics.

This position is remote within the metropolitan D.C. area and requires frequent in person meetings and events in Washington, D.C. The role reports to the Senior Director of Intellectual Property and Standards Policy.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and report on developments related to proposed regulations, legislation, and agency actions.
  • Collaborate with policy team leaders and legal department stakeholders to align messaging and engagement. Draft briefing materials and prepare written communications and advocacy documents.
  • Participate in engagement with policymakers. Organize, prepare for, and conduct meetings with government stakeholders, and lead engagements when appropriate. Coordinate efforts of external consultants supporting advocacy work.
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant government and policy community stakeholders. Contribute to the development of government relations strategy.
  • Represent Dolby in trade associations and policy coalitions, particularly those focused on intellectual property. Support coalition activities and outreach.
  • Engage with consultants, advisors, and trade associations to monitor a broad array of policy issues, including geopolitical developments and trade matters. Report key developments to senior leaders.
  • Communicate policy updates to internal stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
  • At least seven years of experience in public policy or government affairs, including experience in a trade association, consultancy, or in house role.
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory and legislative process.
  • Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills and accountability, particularly in a remote environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience explaining complex topics to government stakeholders and preparing advocacy materials.
  • Willingness to register under the Lobbying Disclosure Act if required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior government experience—especially within Congress—and a law degree.
  • Experience or familiarity with patent law.

The Virginia/Washington D.C. Area base salary range for this full-time position is $171,, which can vary if outside this location, plus bonus, benefits, and some roles may also include equity. Our salary ranges are…
