Campus Police Officer/Deputy Emergency Manager

Responsibilities- Investigate motor vehicle accidents, personal injuries, and criminal matters.
- Enforce state laws, local ordinances, and college policies.
- Prepare reports, maintain records, and provide courtroom testimony.
- Direct traffic, control crowds, and conduct extended foot and vehicle patrols.
- Respond to emergencies and critical incidents; work rotating shifts that may include weekends, nights, and holidays.
- Perform emergency management functions, including supporting the development and implementation of emergency operations plans, participating in emergency exercises and drills, coordinating with internal and external response partners, and assisting with emergency communications and incident management activities.
- Serve in assigned roles within the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) during planned events and emergency operations.
- Assist with campus preparedness and continuity efforts.
- Carry out other duties assigned by the supervisor to support the goals and mission of the department.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned and to assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
QualificationsExperience
- Experience writing reports, plans, policies, procedures, or similar documents.
- Experience working with the public and diverse stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency.
- Experience in emergency management, emergency preparedness, incident response, continuity planning, or related public safety functions (preferred).
- Experience participating in emergency operations, drills, exercises, or incident command activities (preferred).

- Ability to give credible court testimony and comprehend legal documents.
- Ability to use independent judgment and exercise restraint under stressful situations.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle at high speeds in adverse conditions.
- Ability to ascertain facts through personal contact, observation, and examination of records.
- Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
- Ability to recognize safety and security hazards and take corrective action.
- Ability to assist with emergency planning, emergency operations, and campus-wide preparedness initiatives.
- Working knowledge of NIMS, the Incident Command System (ICS), and emergency management principles, or the ability to obtain such knowledge within a reasonable timeframe.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with local, state, and federal public safety and emergency management agencies during incidents and planned events.
Physical Fitness
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activities, run, jump, climb stairs, bend, lift, and physically restrain an individual as needed.
- Ability to perform duties on foot or in a vehicle.
- Must pass a physical abilities test by running 1.5 miles within 20 minutes.
- Must be able to use a respirator.
- Must pass a medical examination, including vision testing, after conditional offer.
- Must perform emergency response duties during disasters, severe weather events, and public safety incidents.
Pre‑Employment and Ongoing Employee Screening
- Successful completion of an extensive background investigation including driving records, criminal history (including fingerprinting), and pre‑employment drug screening.
- Incumbents subject to random, reasonable suspicion, and post‑accident drug and alcohol screening.
- Successful completion of a psychological assessment may be required.
