Job DutiesThe Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Program Support Technician in our Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:
- Processing Virginia and/or Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) responses received electronically through the Consolidated Applicant Tracking System (CATS).
- Conducting inquiries on names and other descriptive data, using the Criminal History Background Request forms.
- Opening/reviewing incoming mail for completeness, and accuracy pursuant to established procedures.
Knowledge
- General office practices and procedures.
Skills
- Using a personal computer and Microsoft Office applications.
- Keyboarding.
Abilities
- To exercise independent judgement and apply prescribed policies and procedures.
- To follow written and verbal instructions.
- To pay close attention to details.
- To research and analyze information and make logical decisions based on policies, procedures, and laws associated with criminal history checks.
- To work independently and as part of a team.
- To communicate effectively orally and in writing in English.
- Must be eligible to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified, which requires either United States citizenship or lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Some experience working in a criminal justice environment dealing with confidential information preferred.
