DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position may be assigned to duties in both the Control Center and the Receptionist Post to include visitation.
Control Room- Communicates over the jail’s telephone, intercom and radio systems with staff, the public, visitors and other agencies.
- Controls all persons entering and leaving the jail’s secure perimeter by ensuring positive identification and verifying their permission to enter or leave.
- Controls all internal movement of staff and inmates by remote operation of gates and doors.
- Monitors the jail’s emergency system’s alarm panels and responds appropriately.
- Maintains required records and logs.
- Issues and receives equipment, keys and other items according to NRVRJ Policy and Procedure.
- Maintains sanitation standards for the Post.
- Ensures all shift paperwork is sorted and forwarded to the appropriate staff in accordance with the Corrections Officer post order.
- Functions as the facility’s Receptionist and primary contact person during regular business hours.
- Responds to and screens all incoming facility calls and directs them to the appropriate extensions; greets public and official visitors to the facility and, when applicable, contacts appropriate staff to respond to visitor’s concerns; responds to questions from callers/visitors relating to inmates.
- Answers questions about employment (e.g., where to come, qualifications for available positions); distributes job applications, ascertains they are properly filled out.
- Trains personnel on functions of facility switchboard.
- Assists in the Visitation and Control Center as dictated by the facility schedule.

- High school graduate or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Good credit record
- No criminal record
- Education equivalent to graduation from high school
- Supplemented with college level courses in psychology, sociology, criminology or related field.
