About the Division of Community Supervision
The Division of Community Supervision (DCS) is responsible for overseeing supervision of adult offenders on probation, parole, or post‑release. The DCS mission is to ensure public safety while helping offenders make positive changes and successfully complete their supervision. DCS collaborates closely with the NC Post‑Release Supervision and Parole Commission, the court system as well as other state agencies, and community partners, particularly those addressing mental health, substance use and re‑entry issues faced by our returning citizens.
ResponsibilitiesThis Judicial Services Coordinator position is typically located in or near the courthouse and will associate with judges, lawyers, District Attorneys, Clerk of Court, law enforcement, etc. The position is responsible for the intake of all new supervised and unsupervised probation cases and, in specified areas, monitoring deferred prosecution cases that require supervision. This includes:
- Interviewing offenders to obtain information regarding new probation and community service cases placed under Community Supervision's authority.
- Entering data into the appropriate software system.
- Assigning offenders for supervision.
- Determining if the offender requires interpreter services.
- Identifying if the offender requires accommodations under the ADA.
- Providing reporting instructions to the offender.
- Processing intrastate and interstate transfer cases out of court.
The position will monitor for compliance of offenders sentenced to community service, including the placement of unsupervised and supervised offenders at an agency to perform work hours and may monitor a low‑risk, low‑needs offender caseload.
QualificationsMinimum
Education and Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, human services, psychology, or related field of study from an appropriately accredited institution; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Associate’s degree in criminal justice, human services, psychology, or related field of study from an appropriately accredited institution and two years’ experience in the court system, paralegal work, or other directly related experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience in the court system, paralegal work, or other directly related experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Skills:
Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
- Ability to provide technical support to staff within the state court through acceptance, examination and processing of legal documents and providing pre‑sentence, pre‑parole, post‑release investigations.
- Strong administrative task performance, including preparing documents and tracking status of cases.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Professional demeanor in a highly visible community supervision role.
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills; ability to work under stressful situations.
- Teamwork and participation in court intake activities.
Software programs used include but are not limited to:
Email, OPUS, CSAS, ICOTS, FMS, AOC. Familiarity with any of these programs is a plus.
Grade NC05 – Salary Range: $33,902 - $59,327.
