Overview
Researches, designs, and implements procedures to audit, certify, and publish student information; performs statistical reporting activities required to collect, process, summarize, analyze, prepare and certify student information statistical reports for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) and on behalf of FCPS for local, regional, state, and federal agencies; consults with and provides technical assistance to schools, regions, and central office administrators regarding student information analysis activities.
QualificationsRequired
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelors degree in computer science, information technology, mathematics, educational administration, or a related field.
- Four (4) years of experience in information processing, two (2) years of which shall have been related to educational recordkeeping and reporting, with some experience in a leadership role.
- Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
- Knowledge of the general principles of data processing, retrieval, analysis, and statistical reporting as related to student information systems.
- Knowledge of, and ability to, remain current in, local, state, and federal student information reporting requirements and accreditation requirements for public schools.
- Technical expertise using data retrieval and reporting software and report formats.
- Ability to train and advise appropriate administrators in the accreditation procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including communication of technical information.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with other school personnel and other administrators.
Preferred
- Master's degree.
- Plans, designs, and manages all aspects of new and ongoing requests for student information to comply with Virginia Department of Education and FCPS internal data warehouse projects and programs as required by Virginia law.
- Designs and publishes surveys, questionnaires, and electronic election ballots for employee organizations utilizing a variety of data collection techniques.
- Compiles, audits, and analyzes student information data, and prepares statistical reports using various retrieval, reporting, and report formats; ensures that appropriate data processing, data retrieval, and statistical reporting processes are utilized and reviews program coding and logic of procedures for accuracy.
- Determines functional requirements.
- Designs test plans and performs acceptance testing for new student information systems developed for FCPS either internally or through vendor purchases.
- Provides technical assistance for committees, task forces, and advisory groups, as needed.
- Performs appropriate qualitative and quantitative analyses of division and cohort data.
- Provides technical assistance to the school, regional, and central office administrators in the use of operational systems or data warehouse tools and statistical analysis to gather data for needs assessments and school planning.
- Assists in the development of standards, policies, and procedures related to the accreditation process.
- Provides training and technical assistance to school administrators in the accreditation procedures.
- Creates, audits, and summarizes student information for other departments to satisfy VDOE reporting requirements.
- Uses databases, spreadsheets, and advanced statistical software for data management and analyses.
- Uses a variety of presentation software to prepare written reports, analyses, and statistical documents for a variety of audiences.
- Assists the senior manager and director with the development and management of the decision support section budget.
- Develops multi-year projections of average daily student membership for use in revenue planning and reporting.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Salary Range $93,300 - $158,766
