Position: Senior Clinician (Child & Adolescent Services)

Who We Are

Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. The Child & Adolescent Services Team (CAST) is seeking a full-time Senior Clinician to join our out-patient (mental health) team. CAST is a fun-loving and energetic team that highly values continuing professional growth, self‑care, and a supportive work environment.

This position provides a great opportunity to grow and develop new clinical skills, work alongside a large group of clinicians and case managers, and work with a very diverse child and family population. CAST also offers access to a full-time child psychiatrist and ongoing clinical supervision to support team member’s work.

Minimum Education and Experience

Master’s degree in human services or related field; three years of experience related to assigned program; or equivalent combination of training and experience. At least three years of relevant professional therapy experience in a mental health setting with children, teens, and families is preferred. Experience with the systems‑of‑care approach for youth, cognitive‑behavioral treatment interventions, motivational interviewing, evidence-based practices, and trauma-focused interventions is preferred.

Candidates with verbal and written fluency in both English and Spanish are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Considerable knowledge and understanding of fundamental concepts of normal and abnormal human behavior, personality development, family and group dynamics; considerable knowledge of and an ability to apply a variety of psychotherapeutic treatment techniques/modalities; adherence to basic ethics appropriate for a professional helping relationship; knowledge of mental health diagnoses, assessment, and/or psychological and educational testing; some knowledge of consultation program; considerable knowledge of psychosocial history development;

very good interviewing and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing. Computer proficiency skills; working knowledge of electronic health record systems. Demonstrated ability to lead others. Knowledgeable in systems‑of‑care approach for children and adolescents preferred; demonstrated ability to assess and understand the impact of complex trauma preferred; experience in family therapy and parent support interventions, case collaboration and coordination with community support partners preferred;

proficiency in clinical documentation preferred.

Additional Requirements

Professional licensure such as Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

Pre-employment Checks

Duties

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To The Following.

  • Provides individual and group therapy sessions in an office-based setting;
  • Conducts trauma-informed, evidence-based assessments and provides treatment plans;
  • Maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation;
  • Collaborates with treatment team regarding client referrals related to medication, hospitalization, or intensive specialized treatment;
  • Refers clients to appropriate community resources when called for in treatment plan;
  • May serve as a lead worker to clinicians, interns, etc. and assists in providing clinical supervision and training;
  • Stays up to date with current and new research and best practices in mental health treatment;
  • May serve as a back-up in the absence of the supervisor;
  • Performs other work as required.
Shift

Monday - Friday; 8:30 a.m.

- 5:00 p.m.; includes some evening hours (4 hours required after 5:00 p.m.)
