About the Position

This will be a long-term contract for one year with possible extension to support one of our clients within the DMV. Your shift will be based on our client’s needs and typically you’ll work from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one (1) hour unpaid lunch break. Temporary personnel may require working six (6) hours or more. Overtime in excess of forty (40) hours in one week is considered overtime work and must be approved by the COTR in advance.

Any assignment will be contingent upon a successful completion of a background check, in accordance with applicable law.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for clinic patient flow, informing physicians of patients’ arrival and room assignment.
  • Accompanies and/or assists patients in the exam room in a professional manner.
  • Obtains patient vital signs, including height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, and pulse oximetry if needed.
  • Perform vital sign measurements using manual equipment and the Welch Allen spot vital sign machine and import results to the electronic medical record in a timely fashion.
  • May be required to take patient medical history if applicable per department.
  • May perform a variety of testing, diagnostic, and screening procedures.
  • Assists in explaining test procedures to patients.
  • Can calculate medication dosages (may be required to demonstrate via passing a yearly written medication exam).
  • Administers medications (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal, inhalation, rectal, topical) using proper technique – this duty can only be performed after the MA has demonstrated competency to the clinic RN yearly, if applicable per department.
  • Completes other tasks as assigned based on the client’s facility needs.
Qualifications
  • Medical Assistant (Certified, Certified Clinical, Registered, or a certificate of completion from your school – preferred, but not required). Proof of current certification is needed if you are a CMA.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – must provide proof of current certification.
  • Two years of clinical experience preferred.
  • Ability to escort or transport a patient by wheelchair when appropriate.
  • BLS/CPR certification required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • We do not accept CNA’s, EMT’s, or PMD’s.
Experience
  • Strong customer service and problem-solving/communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of EMR system.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent communication skills.
  • Perform clinical intake including obtaining patient’s medical history and current medications, chief complaint, obtaining vital signs and recording information within the EMR system.
  • Administer medications, dress/bandage wounds, draw blood and assist provider with any procedures in/out of exam room.
  • Perform diagnostic tests including eye exams, electrocardiograph, audiogram, peak flow, and other basic nursing functions.
  • Perform both DOT and Non-DOT urine drug screens, using proper chain of custody; ensure preparation for pick-up and shipment to appropriate laboratory (on-the-job training).
  • Monitor disposable inventory, medical supplies, and pharmaceuticals.
  • Complete medical charting to include medical services rendered, test results, and supplies used.
