Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Position Summary:

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) – Journey Traveler must travel nationwide for 13‑week assignments, providing speech‑language services in various settings and facilitating learning of communication and swallowing skills.

  • Supervise CFYs temporary licensees, students and support personnel in accordance with state licensure requirements and professional standards.
  • Ensure effective and efficient delivery of rehab services, adherence to plan of care, schedule, and timely documentation.
  • Attend patient care, staffing conferences and related meetings.
  • Make referrals to other disciplines and agencies to address comprehensive patient needs.
  • Consult with team to select appropriate therapeutic regimens.
  • Adapt program/plan of care to individual patient needs.
  • Promote a safe environment and enforce elimination of fire and safety hazards.
  • Order supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Clean, maintain, identify, and report repair needs for equipment.
  • Prioritize patient service, ensuring residents and families receive highest quality service in a caring, compassionate atmosphere that recognizes individual needs and rights.
Qualifications

Required:

Master’s degree in Speech‑Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, Communicative Disorders or similar, acceptable to ASHA.

  • Screen, examine, and evaluate patients, including history, systems review, and appropriate tests; interpret findings to establish a diagnosis, identify impairments, predict improvement level, and design plan of care.
  • Develop treatment goals and methods in collaboration with patient and caregivers; implement treatment plan and complete all related documentation.
  • Apply therapeutic techniques in areas such as cognitive‑communication, speech intelligibility, oral motor skills, swallowing disorders/dysphagia, perceptual abilities, orientation, memory, pragmatics, psychosocial expression, functional communication.
  • SLPs with specialized training in flexible/nasal endoscopy may be required to perform FEES.
  • Coordinate acquisition of adaptive communication devices and instruct patients in use.
  • Facilitate identification of hearing deficits and refer for assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation, or amplification.
  • Select appropriate activities suited to individual’s capacity, intelligence level, and interest.
  • Instruct patients in skills and techniques required for therapeutic activities; evaluate progress, attitudes, and behavior.
  • Perform routine reexamination as needed to modify/progress treatment plan.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Posted salary range: USD $55.00 – $70.00 per hour.
