Job Description

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, a division of the University of Virginia located in Wise, Virginia, invites applications for a tenure‑track faculty position in Hospitality and Tourism Management with a secondary specialization. The position is a full‑time, 9‑month commitment at the assistant professor level with a start date of August 2026. It is housed within the Department of Business and Economics.

The Department of Business and Economics, along with the Hospitality and Tourism Management major, has experienced substantial growth in recent years. This expansion underscores the department’s continued commitment to providing a high‑quality liberal arts education while supporting regional economic development. The opening of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol, together with other emerging hospitality enterprises in the area, is expected to further drive demand for graduates in this field.

Additionally, more than six hundred thousand people live within an hour’s distance of Wise, creating significant opportunities for the students.

The position will support the Hospitality and Tourism Management major and the broader needs of the department. A primary specialization under Hospitality and Tourism Management can include Event / Entertainment Management, Tourism and Destination Management, Culinary Arts and a secondary specialization in areas such as Accounting, Finance, Technology Management, Information Technology, and Information Systems is preferred, though candidates with expertise in other fields within business or hospitality and tourism management will also be considered.

Applicants should clearly indicate both their primary and secondary areas of specialization in the cover letter. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in both their secondary area and the core Hospitality and Tourism Management curriculum.

Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in hospitality and tourism management and a secondary specialization.
  • Conduct research suitable for the department of business and economics at UVA‑Wise.
  • Collaborate with local businesses and organizations.
  • Mentor and advise students, supporting their academic and career development.
  • Promote the hospitality and tourism program to local students and organizations.
  • Engage in service activities within the department and university community.
  • Hold regular office hours during the regular semesters.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Business Administration, or a related field in the secondary specialization (advanced ABD candidates will be considered).
