Part-Time
As the Digital Archivist, you will be responsible for the acquisition, ingest and management of digitised and born digital records under the general direction of the Senior Archivist Digital & Systems. Working collaboratively, you will play a key role in facilitating the transition to a digital archive and developing the digital archives and preservation capacity of the University of Melbourne.
You will require a sound knowledge of the foundations of computer science and digital preservation and be confident in the use of specialist tools and scripts for the validation and management of digital assets. In addition, you must possess a sound knowledge of archival standards and be comfortable working with metadata in a range of forms including JSON and XML. You will be able to provide training and development to colleagues and contribute your expertise to planning documents within Archives and Special Collections.
Responsibilities include:
Contribute to the development and implementation of processes and workflows for the acquisition, preservation, and management of digital assets
Carry out a range of tasks associated with the appraisal, ingest, description and preservation of digital assets using appropriate tools, workflows, and standards
Assist staff with manipulation and quality assurance of archival metadata
Contribute digital archiving expertise to the University of Melbourne Archives’ collection development, management and access activities
