Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two‑year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. The College is one of twenty‑three colleges in the Virginia Community College System.
The Manager of Information Technology/Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Mountain Empire Community College is responsible for managing an evolving IT department that supports academic, student, and administrative technology needs. This role ensures high quality professional services are provided to all customers—including students, faculty, and administrative offices—and ensures proper functionality of services and hardware related to the network and all computing activities for MECC and its global environment for all faculty, staff, and students.
The position is accountable for legal compliance, system performance, long‑range planning, and budgeting. The Manager reports to the Vice President of Financial & Administrative Services and manages the day‑to‑day operations of the Center for Computing & Information Technology (CCIT) department, supervising CCIT staff.
Key responsibilities include preparing and managing the college technology plan and budget; overseeing IT audits and preparing audit responses; providing leadership in multiple functional areas to ensure the security and functionality of the college network operates smoothly and remains up‑to‑date technologically and legally; and participating in college and VCCS committees and work groups related to IT planning and implementation.
Qualifications- Key Skills & Abilities: Ability to work well independently and as a team member; handle a fast‑paced environment with multiple priorities; outstanding customer service skills; excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; excellent analytical and management skills; proficiency with Windows and Mac OS.
- Technical competency in planning, installing, and maintaining network equipment such as routers, switches, firewall, VPN, and wireless access points.
- Working knowledge in planning, installing, and maintaining Windows Servers in an Active Directory environment.
- Knowledge of computer security practices.
- Ability to create, update, and manage all Technical Services Policies and Procedures documentation.
- Willingness to travel as needed; ability to explain technical problems and recommend solutions.
- Experience developing budgeting and strategic planning regarding technology master plans.
- Ability to maintain professional demeanor at all times; maintain confidentiality.
- Desire to learn new systems and remain current with technological advancements.
- Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Related technical experience in Information Technology or related field, or a higher education degree in IT from an accredited college/university; combination of experience and education acceptable.
- Progressive experience with managing an IT department and/or IT project management.
- Proficiency in latest technology for IT systems and management.
- Broad technical knowledge of computing environments, networking, domains, operating systems, protocols, and communications.
- Higher education degree in IT or related field from an accredited college/university.
- Experience in higher education IT specific positions.
- Relevant information technology certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE), VMWare Virtualization or Microsoft Hyper‑V, Cisco Meraki Solutions specialist,…
