Summary of Position (Job Purpose)
The Enterprise Architect II leads a team of senior and junior Solution Architects across Merchandising, Global Sourcing, Supply Chain, Finance, Human Capital, and Omni Channel for Dollar Tree. The role partners with department leadership to analyze and solve immediate quick wins, contributing ideas and strategies for the multi‑year technology roadmap. The architect also mentors Business Analysts pursuing the architect career track and is responsible for the enterprise solution architecture of all company strategic initiatives.
Effective communication with all levels of management, both within and outside IT, is essential.
Primary responsibilities listed in order of importance:
- Serve as leader of the architecture of all Supply Chain, Merchandising, Global Sourcing, Back Office, Digital and Store Operations technology solutions.
- Collaborate with business leaders to identify and prioritize technology initiatives.
- Define technology roadmaps that align to long‑term business objectives.
- Lead and mentor a team of Solution Architects and Business Analysts.
- Work with Solution Directors to create roadmaps for the Supply Chain, Merchandising, Finance, and Data & Analytics domains.
- Provide regular status and risk reporting to IT and business senior leadership.
- Define and ensure adherence to project management processes, templates, and standards.
- Serve on departmental process improvement initiatives.
- Monitor the software market (current and/or new providers) for relevant solutions.
Serve as a Primary Solution Architect for any problem statement in Supply Chain, Merchandising, Global Sourcing, Back Office, Digital and Store Operations:
- Act on a singular problem statement with strategy, action, and urgency.
- Derive varying options and solutions considering risk, costs, and benefits.
- Develop concise communications that can be presented to all levels of the organization.
- Present the appropriate solution (story) to solve the problem.
- Provide routine updates and metrics that prove the solutions achieve expected ROI/results.
Develop partnerships with the following key stakeholders:
- Executive sponsors to document scope.
- Internal and external development resources to ensure solutions meet requirements.
- IT networking, engineering, and security to maintain compliance with corporate standards.
- QA to define testing strategy and execute regression and user acceptance testing.
- Training to define training strategy, develop materials and deliver training.
- Internal Audit to ensure project controls and SDLC processes are followed.
- IT Operations to ensure a successful transition to support.
Occasionally serve as primary lead on strategic initiatives:
- Determine appropriate project structure, work streams, and team leads.
- Develop and maintain tasks, activities, deliverables, and timelines.
- Manage and evaluate resource requirements.
- Continuously assess and re‑evaluate priorities.
- Facilitate meetings.
- Document project decisions, action items, issues, and risks.
- Maintain document repositories.
- Serve as primary liaison with external vendors.
- Prepare status reports and steering committee presentations.
- 10 – 15 years of related work experience, with 3+ of senior management experience highly preferred.
- Prior supervisory experience, preferably within an IT department.
- Experience managing complex technology projects.
- 10 – 15 years of Retail or consumer products experience.
- 10 – 15 years of Supply Chain experience.
- 10 – 15 years of Inventory Management Systems experience.
- 10 – 15 years of Merchandising & Global Sourcing technology experience.
- Experience managing the work of external / offshore vendors.
- Provide routine updates and metrics that prove the solutions achieve expected ROI/results.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills.
- Strong facilitation skills.
- Team player with excellent collaboration skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Self‑starter with sense of urgency.
- Enjoys fast‑paced environments.
- Bachelor’s in business, computer science, MIS or another four‑year related degree.
- 3+ years of senior management experience.
- Experience with Symphony EY, Oracle Retail, or Blue Yonder Solution Suites.
Full‑time position located in Chesapeake, Virginia.
