Senior Network Engineer
BWX Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BWXT) is seeking a Senior Network Engineer for its Lynchburg, VA location (Hybrid schedule).
Essential Functions / Responsibilities- Design, implement, manage, and troubleshoot enterprise wireless networks in a Cisco environment.
- Support the company SDWAN environment (Velocloud/Meraki), including updates, new installations, and troubleshooting.
- Provide network support for on‑premise and cloud data centers in a highly available architecture (Cisco Nexus and Microsoft Azure).
- Manage data center and manufacturing firewalls, load balancers, and security appliances (Cisco/Fortinet/Net Scaler).
- Monitor end‑of‑life and end‑of‑support cycles for platforms and propose hardware refresh projects.
- Perform daily network management, performance monitoring, network monitoring, inventory, and backup tasks (AKiPS, Thousand Eyes, Catalyst Center).
- Support network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
- Work closely with the information security department to protect the LAN from malicious activity.
- Provide technical design, implementation, documentation, and operational leadership for all aspects of networking and mentor junior team members.
- Automate routine network tasks to improve efficiency and free time for strategic activities.
- Provide evening and weekend support and maintenance and travel to other BWXT sites as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management of Information Systems, or a related field and 10 years of experience managing and deploying network devices (routers, switches, load balancers, access points, and wireless controllers).
- Or a high school diploma or equivalent and 14 years of experience managing and deploying network devices (routers, switches, load balancers, access points, and wireless controllers).
- Previous experience with modern routing protocols (BGP and EIGRP).
- Five years of experience managing an enterprise network in a corporate environment.
- Advanced network problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills, including the use of wire captures (Wireshark, Splunk).
- Experience with network segmentation to reduce risk to critical processes.
- Highly self‑motivated and detail oriented.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance.
- Incident and Problem Management Experience.
- CCNA certification.
- CMMC Compliance experience.
- Acquisition support.
- Cisco/Microsoft Teams voice experience.
- Enterprise Network Access Control experience using 802.1x technology.
