Job DutiesThe Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) is seeking a Claims Technician who will deliver prompt and professional Unemployment Insurance (UI) services by responding to claimant and employer inquiries, reviewing and processing initial and continued claims, resolving eligibility issues, and ensuring accurate documentation and timely benefit payments. This role gathers and enters claim information, interviews customers to determine needed actions, updates personal and payment details, meets call quality standards, and maintains compliance with federal and state requirements.
The Claims Technician also supports daily administrative tasks, processes mail, assists with special check requests, maintains organized records, and performs responsibilities related to the FTI Offset Program while contributing to an efficient and customer focused team.

Minimum Qualifications- Basic knowledge of claims examination and processing, accounting and cash management principles, and office operations.
- Strong customer service, data entry, and communication (oral and written) skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft software (e.g., Excel and Word), One Drive, and/or similar software.
- Ability to perform detailed work related to the tracking and resolution of claims and employer charges; collect and analyze information to make determinations; prepare and reconcile reports; record and enter information into a database; interpret and apply program requirements; work independently and as a member of a team; respond to inquiries and provide technical assistance; and prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
- Must successfully obtain and demonstrate requisite skill set (knowledge, skills and abilities) for position and meet the certification requirements, as defined by DOL, to become certified as an agency Unemployment Claims Investigator no later than one year from the commencement of the training program to remain in position.
- Experience entering and reviewing data using an automated system (e.g., VUIS or related system), providing administrative support, reviewing claims, and/or working with UI benefit programs.
- Experience working special program, TRA/RTAA, and DUA claims.
