Cloud Computing: Infrastructure & Operations, AWS, SRE/Site Reliability, Systems Engineer
About the Role
This is the sole dedicated cloud infrastructure role on a small, high-impact platform team (~4–5 engineers) at a fast-growing defense/govtech company. You’ll design and operate the cloud foundation that underpins the entire product, scaling an early-stage platform into a highly available, multi-environment system that supports both cloud and edge deployments.
What You’ll DoDesign, build, and operate cloud infrastructure across AWS and multi-cloud environments.
Deploy and manage applications on Kubernetes (EKS and other environments), ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code using Terraform for repeatable, auditable deployments.
Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines (e.g., CircleCI) to support rapid and reliable software delivery.
Implement and operate observability systems covering metrics, logs, and tracing to monitor system health.
Support integration with edge-deployed systems, including synchronization, connectivity, and deployment workflows across distributed environments.
Debug and resolve production issues spanning cloud infrastructure, networking, and application layers.
Collaborate with backend and infrastructure teams to ensure services are designed for resilience and operability.
5+ years of hands-on cloud infrastructure engineering — designing, building, and scaling platforms from scratch, not just deploying onto existing infrastructure.
Production AWS experience with EC2, RDS, networking, and autoscaling.
Kubernetes (EKS or similar) deployment and operations experience at scale.
Terraform or equivalent IaC tooling used to manage production environments.
Strong Bash scripting for automation, plus proficiency in Python or Go.
Solid understanding of cloud networking concepts: VPCs, subnets, routing, NAT, load balancers, and security groups.
Experience owning infrastructure in a build-phase or early-stage environment — standing systems up from the ground rather than maintaining existing platforms.
CI/CD pipeline design and maintenance (CircleCI or similar).
Nice to have: multi-cloud experience, edge Kubernetes (k3s, RKE2), or experience with constrained/intermittently connected environments.
U.S. citizen or permanent resident — visa sponsorship is not available.
Base salary range: $180,000 – $220,000 USD annually. No visa sponsorship available.
LocationHybrid role based primarily in Arlington, VA
