Cloud Computing: Infrastructure & Operations, Systems Engineer, SRE/Site Reliability
I’m working with a UK-founded AI company expanding its engineering presence in the US, hiring a Senior / Staff Platform Engineer to help deploy and scale its core platform across US Government environments.
This is not a generic Dev Ops role
.
You’ll be hands-on with the infrastructure behind production AI systems operating in defense, intelligence and other high-security environments - owning decisions across cloud, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, security and deployment
.
- Own and improve production Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure
- Solve difficult reliability, security and operational problems across customer environments
- Adapt an existing platform for Gov Cloud, FedRAMP and government infrastructure requirements
- Deploy into environments ranging from customer cloud through to classified, disconnected and air-gapped systems
- Help shape the technical foundations of a growing US engineering team
- Stay hands-on while becoming a senior technical reference point for the wider team
- Deep experience with at least one major cloud provider
- Experience making architecture and deployment decisions yourself rather than only defining standards for other teams
- Exposure to Gov Cloud, FedRAMP, defence, federal government or similarly secure environments
- Experience working in environments where security, reliability and deployment constraints genuinely matter
Existing clearance is useful, but isn’t required.
US citizenship and eligibility to obtain security clearance are required.
Why it’s interesting:The underlying platform combines multimodal data, AI/ML models, semantic data layers, agentic applications and CPU/GPU inference infrastructure to support real operational decision-making.
You’re not maintaining another internal SaaS platform.
The engineering problems involve getting modern AI systems working reliably in environments with strict requirements around security, provenance, assurance, explainability and connectivity
.
You’d also be joining early enough to have a meaningful influence on how the US technical organisation is built.
Location:The role is primarily remote, but you need to be able to reach Herndon, Virginia at short notice when required.
Virginia-based candidates are strongly preferred.
Compensation$200k base + up to 25% annual bonus
(If this job is in fact in your jurisdiction, then you may be using a Proxy or VPN to access this site, and to progress further, you should change your connectivity to another mobile device or PC).
