Personal & Commercial Underwriting Manager - Bermuda

Our client, a well-established and highly regarded insurance organisation based in Bermuda, is seeking to appoint a Vice President – Personal & Commercial Lines to provide strategic underwriting leadership and portfolio oversight.

This is a key executive-level role responsible for underwriting direction, governance, policy development, audit oversight, and ensuring robust risk control measures across the Personal and Commercial Lines portfolio.

Reporting into the CEO, the Vice President will play a pivotal role in shaping underwriting strategy, maintaining technical standards, and ensuring the continued profitability and compliance of the portfolio. This position offers the opportunity to influence underwriting performance within a respected market leader operating in a dynamic regulatory environment.

• Provide strategic underwriting direction and oversight for Personal and Commercial Lines
• Proactive underwriting reviews with Senior Underwriters and Team Leaders to ensure that business is assessed correctly, and terms and conditions as well as premiums set in accordance with all risk factors
• Liaise with underwriting and claims team leaders to assist with onboarding, training and day to day management of underwriting.
• Develop, review, and update underwriting policies, guidelines, and frameworks
• Oversee underwriting quality assurance and audit functions
• Ensure effective risk control measures are implemented and maintained
• Monitor portfolio performance, profitability, and exposure management
• Support regulatory compliance and internal governance requirements
• Work closely with Claims, Compliance, Risk, and Finance functions
• Mentor and develop underwriting talent across the organisation

• Extensive underwriting experience within Personal and Commercial Lines
• Proven senior leadership experience - (minimum 5 years)
• Strong technical underwriting expertise and risk assessment capabilities
• Experience operating within a regulated insurance environment
• Strategic mindset with strong analytical and decision-making skills
• Professional insurance qualifications (ACII, CPCU or equivalent) highly desirable
