The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind (VSDB) is a 10‑month, classified position that offers state benefits including vacation, health insurance, retirement, life insurance, and disability coverage. The position begins in July 2026 and will provide ASL/English interpreting and transliterating services to students, staff, families, business partners, and anyone associated with the VSDB campus.

• Prove interpreting and transliterating skills in American Sign Language, both expressive and receptive, as determined by State Quality Assurance or National Credentials.
• Demonstrate knowledge of Deaf culture and the needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
• Organize and prioritize work efficiently.
• Maintain confidential information in accordance with the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct.
• Possess knowledge of English language structure, spelling, composition rules, and grammar.

• Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Interpreting, completion of an interpreter training program, or equivalent training and experience.
• National Certification by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf or Quality Assurance Screening Level III–V through the VQAS testing system.
• Experience interpreting in both individual and group situations.
• Valid Virginia Driver’s License.
