About Us

The Justice Supports and Services Division of the Department of Justice consists of three programs: each providing Nova Scotians access to critical programming and support. The Maintenance Enforcement Program helps to facilitate the payment of court-ordered child and spousal support; the NS Restorative Justice Program provides opportunities for those harmed by crime, the person who caused the harm and the communities affected to communicate (directly or indirectly) about the causes, circumstances, and impact of that crime, and to address their related needs.

Victim Services offers support to victims of crime as their case moves through the justice system.

About Our Opportunity

The Senior Manager, Provincial Victim Services Program is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of a province-wide system of regional Victim Services Offices delivering information and support services to victims of crime in accordance with the Victims’ Rights and Services Act and the Criminal Code of Canada. This includes the development and administration of policies and procedures for the program, the ongoing identification of emerging issues and formulation of recommendations regarding the needs and concerns of victims of crime, and the coordination of services to victims of crime with partner agencies throughout the province.

You will also be responsible for human resource and budget management, strategic and business planning, chairing or participating on a variety of departmental, interdepartmental and federal/provincial/territorial committees.

As well, you are responsible to be a change agent, to lead direct reports and staff to take a proactive, fair and impartial approach to client service, to take corrective action where necessary, and to recommend solutions to achieve excellence in program delivery.

About You

This may be the right opportunity for you if you have a related University degree (Public Administration, Criminology, Psychology/Sociology) along with several years of successful leadership and experience at a supervisory/managerial level, or acceptable equivalent. Having a demonstrated ability in managing and engaging a large service delivery team located in different offices is a must. You are a change and innovation-oriented leader who exhibits an aptitude and proven track record to deal with complex issues, strong analytical skills, tact and diplomacy, highly proficient communications skills and the ability to influence stakeholders (within and outside government at the municipal, provincial and federal level).

You possess strong creative and solution-based problem-solving skills with exceptional time management skills, able to manage priorities with competing deadlines, and able to work independently.

You also have demonstrated experience formulating decisions within the scope of applicable policies and legislation; strategic planning for client service delivery organizations; and strong negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills.

In addition, you will have knowledge of the Victims’ Rights Act, the Canadian Victims’ Bill of Rights, and the Criminal Code of Canada.

The Government of Nova Scotia has adopted the LEADS Leadership Framework. During the interview, candidates will be expected to express how they have demonstrated the key behaviours and capabilities required to effectively lead in a caring and inclusive environment. LEADS Domains includes Leads Self, Engage Others, Achieve Results, Develop Coalitions and Systems Transformation. Please follow LEADS () for more information.

We will assess the above qualifications and capabilities using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
