Director of Preconstruction (Subcontractor) – Virginia

A well-established and growing subcontractor in Virginia is hiring a Director of Preconstruction to lead estimating, budgeting, and preconstruction strategy across multiple active pursuits. This role is ideal for someone who can balance hands-on estimating leadership with high-level precon planning, while supporting a growing team and improving systems.

• Lead all estimating and preconstruction efforts across multiple bids/pursuits
• Oversee takeoffs, pricing, scope review, and proposal strategy
• Manage subcontractor/vendor pricing and procurement coordination
• Partner with operations leadership to ensure clean handoff from precon to execution
• Review drawings/specs and identify risks, gaps, and value engineering options
• Improve estimating workflows, standards, and internal processes
• Mentor and grow estimators / preconstruction staff

• Experience leading bids from early budget through final proposal
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong understanding of scope, labor planning, and cost drivers
• Comfortable interfacing with GCs, owners, and internal ops teams
• Leadership mindset (this is a key hire, not just an estimator role)
