Data Center Facility Manager role acts as Amazon’s front line when it comes to hands‑on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. You will maintain, operate, and troubleshoot mission‑critical data centre facility equipment including stand‑by diesel generators, fuel systems, 3‑phase electrical switch gear, UPS units, PDUs, wet‑cell batteries, CRAC units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, water‑chemical systems, air handlers, pumps, motors, fire suppression systems, building‑automation systems and general facilities equipment.
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centres and the servers, storage, networking, power and cooling that keep customers’ workloads available. This role partners with software, hardware and network engineers, supply‑chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to meet the highest safety and security standards while delivering capacity at the lowest cost.
We will need you to travel to active data centres (over 50 mi) or be able to commute (under 50 mi) as required by business needs. The position may begin at a facility under development and requires active travel for training until the site is operational.
This role requires you to be a U.S. citizen with an active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility. After start you must maintain an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph and comply with all security requirements for each agency you support.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee all aspects of the data centre’s critical physical infrastructure to maintain high availability and performance while protecting service level agreements.
- Manage the on‑site 24/7 shift team, sub‑contractors and vendors, ensuring work follows established practices, procedures and safety protocols.
- Drive safety and security culture and compliance within the team.
- Hire, coach and promote team members; manage career development and performance.
- Maintain healthy team culture and peak morale.
- Efficiently manage the operations budget and expenditures.
- Engage in improvement projects, coordinating with support teams and driving them from conception to completion.
- Act as escalation point for all facility‑related issues, overseeing routine and emergency services across critical systems such as switch gear, generators, UPS, power distribution, chillers, cooling towers, air‑handlers, building‑monitoring systems and more.
- Utilize root‑cause analysis and troubleshooting skills.
- Respond to out‑of‑hours emergency calls.
- 2+ years of people‑management and team‑development experience.
- 5+ years of engineering work managing large‑scale services.
- Experience maintaining SLAs through proactive issue detection and reporting.
- Experience operating a mission‑critical team or product.
- High school education or equivalent.
- Current, active U.S. Government security clearance of Top Secret with SCI eligibility or higher.
- 3+ years in a management role with 5 or more direct reports.
- 5+ years of data‑centre experience focusing on building and equipment operation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of critical data‑centre electrical and mechanical systems – feeders, transformers, generators, switch gear, UPS, ATS, PDU, chillers, pumps, air‑handling units, CRAC.
USA, VA, WOODFORD – Salary range: – USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications and location.
