Shipping & Receiving Clerk

The Shipping & Receiving Clerk is responsible for the physical and electronic receipt of inbound shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties to quality and productivity standards.

Essential Functions
  • Proper implementation of VSP’s Quality Program
  • Ensure all incoming materials are properly received, visually inspected, and placed in the proper inventory location, production area, or held for customer shipment; reject damaged items, record shortages, and correspond with shipper/purchasing to rectify damages and shortages.
  • Maintain inventory to ensure all items are in proper bin locations
  • Perform cycle counts on inventory items as required
  • Operate lit trucks and hand trucks to convey, move or hoist materials to proper areas or bin locations
  • Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies
  • Work closely with other VSP personnel to ensure sales orders are shipped correctly, on time, and in the most economical and safest method
  • Accurately pull stock for customer orders or transfers as necessary
  • Perform all computer functions necessary to create and print shipping labels/inserts and to track incoming and outgoing shipments
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations
  • Drive company vehicle to make deliveries and/or pick-ups as necessary
  • Maintain a favorable working relationship with all company employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate that will be conducive to maximum employee morale, productivity, and efficiency/effectiveness
  • Adheres to all company Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures as outlined in the VSP Health & Safety Manual. Actively contributes to maintaining a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace in alignment with VSP standards
  • Experience / Education
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Previous experience in shipping/receiving
    • MS Office Experience
    • A valid driver’s license
    • Advanced experience in shipping/receiving in a distribution/fabrication environment (Preferred)
