Sheet Metal Worker-Experienced

Position: Sheet Metal Worker - Experienced (2 or more years of experience)

Location: Newport News, Virginia, United States

Employee Type: Full‑Time, Multiple Shift, Not eligible for telework, No relocation assistance.

As a Sheet Metal Worker, you will first be qualified through the shipyard’s state‑of‑the‑art welding school. The Sheet Metal Department is a highly versatile team of craftsmen responsible for fabricating, assembling, and installing a wide variety of components on aircraft carriers, submarines, and other surface ships. These components include, but are not limited to ventilation systems, metal joiner bulkheads and framing, furniture, cabinetry, lockers, ladders and handrails, foundations, weapons spaces, and wet spaces.

• Perform work governed by detailed technical work documents and procedural guidelines.
• Use hand tools and power tools/equipment, including drills, rivet guns, grinders, miter saws, band saws, nibblers, plasma arc cutters, rollers, shears, press brakes, and CNC fabricators.
• Participate in formal and on‑the‑job training, including basic sheet metal/tack welding and job‑specific training as required.

• Legally eligible to work in the U.S. and 18 years of age or older.
• Ability to work at extreme heights or in small confined spaces.
• Ability to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb.
• Ability to lift 40 lbs and pass a respirator fit test.
• Ability to work indoors/outdoors year‑round in all weather conditions.
• Ability to work assigned shift as production needs dictate.
• Pass physical agility test.
• Two (2) or more years of experience in sheet metal/fabrication, carpentry, construction, mechanical/automotive repair, welding/hull tech, or similar experience.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
