The Maintenance Mechanical Technician maintains mechanical equipment used in the production and packaging of evaporated salt. This position troubleshoots, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic production machinery to support a safe, efficient, and continuous manufacturing process. Two employees are assigned to this role to provide continuous coverage.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Troubleshoots and repairs equipment.
  • Performs proper installation of all equipment.
  • Receives and inventories spare and replacement parts and organizes and stores them properly as directed by management.
  • Maintains work areas in a clean and safe manner and upholds housekeeping in assigned areas to plant and AIB standards.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid DMME General Mineral Miner card within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Performs light fabrication and welding of equipment, pipe, mounting frames, and supports.
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Maintains PM records, checklists, work permits, and other plant documents as needed.
  • Operates and inspects mobile equipment in accordance with Virginia Energy regulations.
  • Performs inspections and testing of equipment.
  • Repairs equipment including, but not limited to, boilers, centrifuges, dryers, compressors, conveyors, baggers, palletizers, wrappers, and shakers.
  • Prepares PM sheets and documentation for equipment.
  • Responds to call‑outs during off‑hours to maintain salt production and packaging.
  • Conducts safety inspections to help maintain a safe work environment.
  • Participates in all required training and keeps all training current and up to date.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

High School Diploma, Associate’s degree (or higher) in a technical or process-related field preferred, with 3+ years of maintenance experience. In lieu of a degree, 5–10 years of maintenance experience may be considered.
