Overview

The International Studies Office seeks a creative Social Media Intern to promote Education Abroad opportunities and events. This internship provides a hands‑on opportunity to develop and implement social media strategies on various platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Write social media captions.
  • Create visually appealing graphics and multimedia content.
  • Schedule posts using social media management tools such as Canva and Meta Business.
  • Communicate and collaborate regularly with education abroad advisors and outreach coordinator.
  • Take pictures and create content during major Education Abroad events such as fairs and Global Week.
  • Ensure brand messaging is consistent with the UVA digital communication guidelines offered by Brand Dot Virginia.
  • Maintain a consistent presence on each channel.
  • Develop new strategies for increasing engagement.
  • Track social media engagement to identify high‑performing ideas.
  • Assist with students’ Social Media takeovers.
  • Stay updated on the latest social media trends and platform changes.
  • Keep an eye on other Higher Education Institutions’ study abroad social media activities.
  • Monitor and engage with other UVA social media accounts.
  • Collect and analyze marketing activity data bi‑weekly.
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications

A successful Social Media Intern should have excellent written communication skills and practical experience on major social media platforms, and the ability to strategically utilize them. Previous study‑abroad experience is preferred. The role will develop skills in creative thinking, time management, data analysis, communication and project management.

Compensation and Work Hours

Internship: 10–15 hours per week at $15.25 per hour. The work schedule will be hybrid, with regular time in the International Studies Office and at events around Grounds.

Physical Demands

This primarily sedentary role involves extensive use of desktop computers. It may require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
