Position: Advanced Practice Provider (APP/NP/PA) - Medical Specialties | Ehlers-Danlos Center

The Advanced Practice Provider will deliver comprehensive, patient-centered specialty care to adolescents and adults with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and related heritable connective tissue disorders within a newly established Ehlers-Danlos Center at UVA Health. This role focuses on the evaluation, longitudinal management, and coordination of care for patients with complex, multisystem conditions, including chronic pain, autonomic dysfunction, gastrointestinal complications, fatigue, and functional limitations.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed history and physical examinations, coordinate diagnostic evaluations, manage chronic and overlapping conditions, prescribe and titrate therapies, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team that may include physicians, genetic counselors, physical and occupational therapists, pain specialists, behavioral health clinicians, nurses, and care coordinators.
  • Play a central role in care coordination across specialties, patient and caregiver education, symptom management, and development of individualized care plans that emphasize function, quality of life, and shared decision-making.
  • Contribute to program development for the Ehlers-Danlos Center, help establish clinical workflows, participate in quality improvement initiatives, support referral triage, and promote best practices in care of patients with heritable connective tissue disorders.
  • Participate in clinical research, education of trainees, and community or provider outreach related to EDS as opportunities arise.
  • Work in an outpatient, weekday (Monday–Friday) clinical model with no required nights, weekends, or holidays.
  • Be affiliated with the UVA School of Medicine and supported by UVA’s Center for Advanced Practice, which provides professional development, mentorship, onboarding, and administrative infrastructure for Advanced Practice Providers.
  • Help build and shape a comprehensive Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Center within a leading academic health system, with emphasis on complex chronic disease management, multidisciplinary collaboration, and care for patients with rare or underserved conditions.

Prior clinical experience caring for patients with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, heritable connective tissue disorders, or other complex multisystem or rare diseases is preferred.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education:

    Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.
  • Experience:

    Department and unit specific.
  • Licensure:
    License or license eligible as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies.

    Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP as required, ACLS as required by position.
Physical Demands

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequent bending/stooping, reaching overhead and repetitive motion (computer keyboard). Proficient communication, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail; ability to lift/push/pull 50–100 lbs; may be exposed to noise, radiation, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting base rate for this role is $ annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
