Job Overview
Registered Nurse – Bon Air Juvenile Justice Center, Virginia. Responsible for providing nursing care to residents, assessing and treating acute and chronic illnesses, responding to medical emergencies, guiding LPNs, and maintaining nursing practice standards consistent with state and federal regulations.

- Direct Patient Care/Charge Nurse responsibilities
- Ensuring a safe and efficient clinical environment and medical movement
- Medication administration
- Responding to medical emergencies and security events
- Managing medical service requests, reviewing nursing protocol forms, collecting sick call statistics, assisting with chart audits, and other duties as assigned
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- RN licensure in good standing in Virginia or a compact state.
- CPR certification (Professional Rescuer) current for two persons, bag‑valve mask, and AED.
- Basic knowledge of electronic record keeping.
- Experience with medication administration and the five patient rights.
- Working knowledge of professional nursing practice principles.
- Basic knowledge of normal adolescent growth and development and typical health issues of adolescents.
- Use of nursing assessment, history of present illness, symptom review, and nursing protocols to make a nursing diagnosis.
- Implementation of standing orders based on level of care and follow-through of emergency procedures as indicated by diagnosis and standing orders.
- Making referrals to the nursing supervisor, NP/MD, or ER as appropriate using critical thinking and standards of practice.
- Ability to collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Experience as an RN in corrections, ambulatory care, pediatrics, or adolescent settings, or prior LPN experience with the Department of Juvenile Justice.
- Knowledge and experience with ACA or NCCHC accreditation.
