What You’ll Do
  • Perform hemodialysis treatment procedures, delivering safe, efficient care of the highest quality and providing specialized registered nursing care in accordance with state law.
  • Act as a resource for staff, using professional nursing knowledge.
  • Utilize assessment, technical, collaborative, documentation, and leadership skills daily.

Responsibilities
  • Understand basic renal function and consequences of renal failure; observe and record patient responses to renal failure and its treatments; perform thorough patient assessments and provide feedback to the nurse in charge.
  • Recognize changes in patients on dialysis and make necessary adjustments in therapy; respond to emergencies, notify the nephrologist when necessary, and seek direction.
  • Set and review priorities for patient care based on knowledge; convey priorities to staff.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate appropriate care plans; work collaboratively with patients, families, nurses, technicians, nephrologists, physicians, and dietitians.
  • Assume primary nurse responsibilities as directed.
  • Communicate significant information clearly and accurately; act as liaison between the head nurse, staff, and patients.
  • Document in a clear, concise, and thorough manner; ensure all paperwork is completed properly during the shift.
  • Verify accuracy of all orders during treatment.
  • Perform tasks for the safe, smooth, and efficient operation of the unit: set‑up, reuse, trash removal, water checks, opening and closing, mixing baths, cleaning machines and stations, and other responsibilities directed by the Charge Nurse.
  • Administer medications when ordered; understand safe dosage principles and teach patients.
  • Obtain laboratory specimens as ordered and perform routine tests; interpret results and confer with dietist and nephrologist when necessary.
  • Delegate responsibilities appropriately and ensure follow‑up in routine and emergency situations.
  • Perform day‑to‑day functions of the Charge Nurse in his/her absence (staffing, scheduling, etc.).
  • Understand legal consequences of nursing actions.
  • Promote patient education about disease and treatment.
  • Assess patient readiness to learn; plan and implement appropriate teaching methods.
  • Follow Rendevor policies and procedures for infection control; understand hazards associated with procedures.
  • Participate in CPR as needed.
  • Contribute to harmonious relationships with all staff.
  • Assume responsibility for special unit projects directed by the Charge Nurse.
  • Recommend procedural changes when new knowledge indicates a need.
  • Participate in the unit’s Quality Assurance Program.
  • Attend IDT and QAPI committee meetings as needed.
  • Identify and report concerns, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in performance improvement projects.
  • Attend annual QAPI training and other continuing education as required.
  • Provide suggestions for alternate strategies for indicators not improving.
  • Assist in building and maintaining a culture of safety and quality.
  • Report errors and near misses to prevent recurrence.
  • Use evidence‑based guidelines and proper infection control practices.
  • Develop and participate in in‑service education programs.
  • Assist in orienting new staff members as directed.
  • Participate in self or peer evaluation.
  • Ensure confidentiality of patient, employee, and company information.
