Job Overview
Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) seeks a Practical Nursing (PN) Clinical Adjunct Faculty to support our Traditional Program students during weekday clinical rotations. The position is part‑time, paid per credit hour, and includes teaching, supervision, and clinical assessment on both the Alberta and South Boston campuses.
Work ScheduleTraditional Program schedule; weekday clinical rotations (Monday through Friday, daytime hours). No more than 29 clinical hours per week. Multiple work locations:
Alberta (Christanna Campus) or South Boston (Daniel Technology Center).
- Become familiar with the PN program philosophy, objectives, and policies.
- Familiarize with the Nursing Student Handbook and adjunct faculty handbook.
- Attend student and faculty orientations to the clinical area.
- Provide continuous on‑site supervision and guidance using components of the nursing process.
- Remain accessible at all times to ensure patient safety and student guidance in the clinical setting.
- Select student patient assignments that align with fundamental practical nursing learning outcomes.
- Conduct pre‑ and post‑clinical conferences and serve as a professional role model.
- Review, correct, and provide meaningful feedback on written clinical assignments, returning them within one week.
- Formally evaluate and record student clinical progress at midterm and at the conclusion of each rotation.
- Discuss documented strengths and areas needing improvement directly with the student using evaluation forms.
- Maintain a safe, cooperative learning environment with clinical agency staff.
- Promptly report student absences, behavioral issues, or clinical performance concerns to the full‑time PN faculty or Program Coordinator.
- Attend selected nursing faculty and/or curricular meetings as designated.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned, or to assist the agency or state government during an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or an Associate degree with enrollment in a BSN program.
- At least two (2) years of clinical experience as a registered nurse, preferably in a medical‑surgical, gerontological, or long‑term care setting.
- Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or a valid multi‑state privilege.
- Maintain professional clinical competence through ongoing nursing practice, continuing education, or academic coursework.
