Job Duties: This is a quasi-full‑time position with a salary based on 36 hours per week, and is a weekend‑only position. Site and night shift pay differential is also available in addition to the benefits of being an employee of the state of Virginia.
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) provide evidence‑based nursing care utilizing the nursing process, principles, practices, and techniques of general nursing care as determined by Standards of Practice under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
Screen for sick calls, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support to patients and employees as needed.
Maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff while contributing to treatment planning.
Record all pertinent information into the medical record.
Interact with other departments as needed.
Promote continued competence through education and certification, with a focus on correctional nursing.
Work hours, days, and locations are assigned as required, and staff must be available to provide coverage to meet institutional needs.
Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.

- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license issued by the board of nursing or a multi‑state compact license (if you are a recent graduate of a nursing program in VA and not licensed, the NCLEX‑PN exam must be scheduled at the time of application)
- Working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of practical or general nursing care
- Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals
- Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out provider's orders in applying treatments
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to administer practical nursing care
- Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire
- Experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment
- Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care
