Job DutiesThis is a full‑time position with an annual salary range of $62,492 - $81,093. Eligible new hires may receive a $3,500 sign‑on bonus or up to $10,000 in student loan repayment. LPNs provide evidence‑based nursing care, utilizing the nursing process, principles, practices and techniques of general nursing care as determined by Standards of Practice under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
They screen for sick call, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support to patients and employees as needed. LPNs maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff, record all pertinent information into the medical record, interact with other departments as needed, and promote continued competence through education and certification with a focus on correctional nursing.
Nurses must work hours, days, and locations as assigned, and be available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional and departmental needs. Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license issued by the board of nursing or a multi‑state compact license (if you are a recent graduate of a nursing program in VA and not licensed, the NCLEX‑PN exam must be scheduled at the time of application)
- Working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of practical or general nursing care
- Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals
- Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers’ orders in applying treatments
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to administer practical nursing care
- Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire
- Experience working in a corrections or law enforcement environment
- Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care
