Responsibilities- Provide evidence-based nursing care within 29 average hours per week under direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Screen for sick calls, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support to patients and employees.
- Maintain open communication with security and treatment staff to assist in developing treatment plans.
- Document all pertinent information accurately in the medical record.
- Collaborate with other departments and provide input and feedback as needed.
- Work flexible hours, days, and locations as assigned and provide coverage as necessary.
- Perform any other duties or assignments required by the Department to meet clinical and administrative needs.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
- Valid unrestricted Virginia LPN license or multi‑state compact license; if recently graduated, must schedule the NCLEX‑PN exam at application time.
- Working knowledge of practical or general nursing principles and practices.
- Ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer appropriate cases to other medical professionals.
- Skill in maintaining documentation and carrying out provider orders for treatment.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions for practical nursing care.
- Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
- Experience working in a corrections or law‑enforcement environment.
- Experience or related training in the delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care.
Wage position limited to 1,500 hours per agency during a 12‑month period (May 1 – April 30); no more than 29 hours per week on average over that period. Position offers no state benefits.
